LACOE will continue to support vaccination efforts for additional education workers who may become interested in receiving the vaccine in the future.

International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination
LACOE supports campaign vs hate-based attacks against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders
|
|
A week before the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, eight people -- including six women of Asian descent -- lost their lives to senseless acts of violence in Atlanta. Though the motive has yet to be determined, the shootings put the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities on edge. Supt. Debra Duardo has acknowledged the growing outrage and fear in the AAPI communities that have borne the brunt of hate-based attacks during the pandemic.
The coalition Stop AAPI Hate has reported at least 3,795 anti-Asian hate incidents nationwide, mostly against women, since the pandemic began. "We condemn these attacks and stand behind the AAPI communities as we continue to fully support the nationwide campaign against hate and racism," Duardo said in a statement. LACOE has compiled resources to help educators discuss recent events and anti-Asian racism with students.
The LA County Board of Education has proclaimed March 21 as International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and encouraged communities to observe this day with activities advocating for social justice and racial equity.
