Religious people are always complaining about the dangers of a watered down or sugar coated gospel. What these religious critics don’t seem to know is God Himself uses these same types of descriptions to describe His Good News.
Look at what Jesus told a five time divorcée who was living with a man she wasn’t married to.
“But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” John 4:14
How is it possible to water down water?
King David wrote this Psalm after he committed adultery with Bathsheba and murdered her husband.
“How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!”
Psalm 119:103
Why would you need to coat something with sugar that is already sweeter than honey?
So you can’t water down water and it makes no sense to coat something with sugar that is already sweeter than honey. So the critics who are so deeply concerned about the purity of the gospel, seem unaware at how thirst quenching and sweet it already is. To those who get to drink and taste it, the gospel isn’t bitter and dry but sweet delicious and refreshing to taste and experience. Except no substitutes!
