Community Media Center Update |
I hope you're well and in good spirits.
As you casually browse or thoroughly read this month's newsletter, we hope you consider all the available opportunities for you to take advantage of as a member.
Since many of the workshops offered take place in the evening, many of you expressed a desire for a daytime editing workshop. While the evening does accommodate those who work during the day or have other obligations, we realized through feedback that it didn't meet the needs of others, who actually have time available during the day.
So, we're excited that you shared your thoughts and we are now able to accommodate your needs with a daytime workshop. The Introduction to Final Cut Pro X editing workshop actually filled-up very quickly.
This is just one example of how a community media center should work for its members and the community it serves. We encourage you to continue to share your thoughts, so that we can work hard to accommodate your needs to the best of our ability.
While all of your great ideas and suggestions may not make the cut, the ones that do, hopefully, improve your experience and our value as a community resource center.
We also learned there are organizations who are being displaced from their current facilities for a variety of reasons. As a community resource, we're discussing how our facility may accommodate some of the needs of these organizations as they figure out their next steps and how to continue to serve the community in their unique way.
We hope we can support these organizations in some small way as they go through their transition and they come out stronger as a result. We know we will from having the opportunity to support their efforts.
If we continue to support one another and share ideas, we believe the possibilities are endless for building an even stronger Framingham.
In closing, I would like to emphasize and remind all of you
once again, that this is your media access center and we want you to know we're here for you. So, please feel free to let us know how we can continue to help you share the stories of the community.
As I mentioned in last month's newsletter, we can't cover every Framingham event and activity, but we can definitely cover many more. Only if we have the opportunity to show you how to shoot, edit and produce the story and have fun doing it.
There are plenty of shoots available this month for member volunteers, including the annual Concerts on the Green every Friday. So l
et's do it together for Framingham and listen to some great music along the way!
Bring a friend or family member and share the amazing experience of television production. Be safe and have a great summer.
Sincerely,
Scott Mercer
Executive Director

TV Camp at Framingham High School
|
AF-TV partnered with Framingham Public Schools to create a two week video camp for Middle School aged kids. This was a free experience for youth thanks to a grant from 21st Century After School Programs. Kids were bused to Framingham High School for workshops in Studio Production, Social Media Skills and Media Literacy. Access Framingham staff members Francesca Cerutti-Harris, Michael Goodman and Derek Sacks lead the team for the studio production sessions. The theme this year was the Olympics and the kids interviewed folks from Bancroft Boxing, the Framingham High School Athletic Director, Paul Spear, and to talk about the spotlight on Brazil...Ilma Paxion of WSRO and a representative of the Brazilian Consulate. The finished program will be aired on AF-TV and The Framingham Education Channel starting in mid-August.
We have new artwork in The Gallery at Access Framingham. Artist Guild member Doreen Smith has her works of acrylic, watercolor and collage now through September 15th. We will be having a Reception for the Artist on Wednesday, August 17th

Saving Content in Member Work Room
Member Edit Storage Workflow
AFTV is not an an archive resource. If you have content valuable to you and or your organization; we suggest purchasing an external Hard Drive to store you content!
Editing on a Shared Drive
- create a NEW folder at the root of the external Hard Drive with your name.
- add all content/libraries to your NEW folder on the external Hard Drive (creating sub folders is recommended)
- after completion of each project DELETE RENDERED FILES
A) Select one or more projects in Browser
B) Choose File > Delete Generated Project
C) In the window that appears; select Delete Render Files and click OK
Editing on Personal Drive
The "Editing on a Shared Drive" workflow is recommended; but creating a folder with your name at the root is not necessary.
Every Friday
In efforts to maintain the smoothest editing sessions for our members/volunteers/interns we are asking individuals NOT to save any content or libraries to the internal MAC Hard Drive. An AFTV Staff Member will delete ALL content/libraries/etc. each and every Friday at 6pm
DO NOT SAVE TO THE INTERNAL HARD DRIVES!!
Happy Editing!!
