Letter from the Executive Director
Scott Mercer
Executive Director
Hello Members and Supporters,

During these challenging times, I wanted to let you know Access Framingham (AFTV), Framingham Education Channel (FECtv) and the Framingham Public Access Corporation (FPAC) Board are doing everything we can to make sure we keep everybody safe on our staff and in the Framingham community.
Like many of you, we are very disappointed it is no longer business as usual with members and visitors actively moving about the studio facilities to record programs, check out equipment, edit projects and programs, or just stop by for a visit or meeting.

We believe, like so many other organizations and businesses, it was the right decision to take early action to close the facility and prepare staff to work from home. As I continue to watch and monitor the news in Framingham and throughout the country, I am grateful to know, thus far, that our staff and board remain healthy. I hope the same is true for our members and the supporters we serve.

While Framingham has not been as fortunate as an entire community, Access Framingham continues to offer services and support to the city and school officials by providing communication and production services, technical and technology consultation, updates and content distribution, so they can communicate to the community as a whole. We are just one of many spokes in the wheel trying to keep people safe, calm and informed.

As you’ll see in this Newsletter, we have a variety of information and activities to share. It’s my hope that at least one of them allows you a much needed distraction from the daily concerns we all face as we hunker down and work together to get through this together.

I do look forward to when I can return to the office and be interrupted by a member stopping by just to say, "Hi" or hear the music playing from Studio A through my abutting office wall during a HamJams recording or the staff debating whether Tom Brady will do well in Tampa Bay (sorry, that one hurt). That’s when I'll know it’s back to business as usual.

Until then… Enjoy the information in the newsletter and please adhere to the social distancing, not just for you, but for everybody, and stay safe!

Sincerely,

Scott Mercer
Executive Director

Produce A Program From Home!
Member Producer, David Hornfischer, Produces Fan to Fan Segment During Social Distancing.
Don't let staying at home stop you from producing your program! Here are some tips from our Studio Coordinator, Shavarsh, on how to film your program episodes at home and share them with AFTV.
  1. Attach your camera or phone to a tripod. If you don't have access to a tripod then prop your phone or camera on a steady surface using something as simple a a heavy mug or thick book located behind the phone. Situate the phone Landscape mode (horizontal) for the best video.
  2. For framing purposes, keep in mind the Rule of Thirds and confirm there is enough headroom. Click on the Rule of Thirds link above to learn more.
  3. Make certain you are in a well lit area. Lighting will make you video look better. Lighting in front of you. but behind the camera is best.
  4. For the best audio, use the microphone that plugs into your phone or wireless earbuds that have a microphone.
  5. Recording your video on your experience with social distancing? Share the good, bad, or fun; how you prepared or what you're doing to stay safe and to keep others safe?
  6. Send your video through Dropbox or Google Drive. If you need our dropbox/google drive information please email Shavarsh at smorrissey@accessfram.tv
  7. Send Shavarsh the link so he can download the video and air it on the channel or website.
