Removing Barriers,

Creating Communities of Belonging.

August 2025

“The LORD is my refuge, and my God is the rock of my confidence.”

Psalm 94:22

It is highly likely there are people at your church who wear glasses. It is also likely you have aging members of you congregation who's useable vision is diminishing. How can churches more intentionally prepare for meeting the needs of people living with low vision or blindness?

At our virtual gathering this Monday, August 18, fellow Anglicans, Emmie Lo and Galen Sievert, will be sharing insights and suggestions from their lived experience of being blind or low vision, and serving in various capacities in their churches.

The presentation will touch on the following questions:

  1. Are there social courtesies to follow when talking with people who are blind or have low vision?
  2. Tell us about yourself and give us a glimpse into your daily life. What are some helpful accommodations you use?
  3. What are some ways you are serving or have served in the past in your church or ways you hope to serve in the future?
  4. What are some accommodations churches/church groups can use to make printed materials accessible, and buildings or meeting spaces more user friendly for people who are blind or have low vision?
  5. What are some teaching accommodations which are helpful [particularly noting stragegies helpful for children and youth]?

We invite you to join us in learning more to equip your church to anticipate and intentionally prepare for giving a warm welcome to blind and low vision people, and better minister to the needs of those currently in your congregation.

Hope to see you Monday, August 18, 6pm CT / 7pm ET!

Blessings,
