Pilot Project Enhancement Grant (PPEG) Funding Opportunity
Letter of Intent Due: 03/31/2020
Invitation to Submit Full Application: 04/06/2020
Application Due Date: 05/15/2020

In the past six years, the MW CTR-IN Program has provided over $6M in pilot grant funding to over 90 investigators at our partner universities. Several of these supported investigators had successfully obtained NIH or other extramural research funding based on their CTR-IN pilot project. Barriers to those investigators that have not yet obtained extramural grant funding could include the need for additional key preliminary data to better support an extramural grant application. The purpose of this funding opportunity is to provide support to enhance research proposed in a previously funded MW CTR-IN Pilot Grant with the expectation that the funding will further facilitate the collection of data to support and inform a competitive “R-level” grant application to NIH or another extramural funding source . CTR-IN recognizes the fact that data collection for translational research studies can often extend beyond a one-year funding window available for Pilot Project Grants, but that it is nevertheless critical to collect sufficient pilot data to justify the feasibility, predicted outcomes, and likelihood of success, of the research proposed in an extramural grant application. The Pilot Project Enhancement Grant is therefore designed to support additional data collection to enhance the proposed experiments, meet re-calculated sample size requirements, or strengthen core predictions/outcomes specified in the Pilot Project. The Pilot Project Enhancement Grant is not designed to support a different area of research that is not consistent with the scope and aims of the original Pilot Project Grant. Direct Costs ≤ $40,000.

For questions on the CTR-IN pilot grant program including the PPEG FOA, please contact Dr. Curtis Noonan  curtis.noonan@umontana.edu  and Dr. Scott Seville  SSeville@uwyo.edu

Letter of Intent (LOI) Due: April 23, 2020

The intent of this Request for Proposal (RFP) is to raise awareness and close knowledge gaps to reduce the time it takes for patients to be correctly diagnosed and make treatment more accessible, while supporting the development of a global network of TTR amyloidosis experts. Expanding the community of practice will help decrease the distance patients need to travel to be diagnosed, although valuable guidance may still be obtained from experienced centers further from home.
