Hello Student Affairs Colleagues,

I am pleased to share that effective December 1, Access and Disability Support (ADS) will join Student Affairs. ADS will transition from Basic Needs Systems to Student Affairs, Student Rights and Engagement Department under the leadership of Dr. Guillermo “Willie” Martinez.

This transition brings ADS into closer alignment with student-facing services across Student Affairs and creates opportunities to strengthen collaboration and how we collectively support students throughout their ACC experience.

While the organizational reporting structure is changing, the heart of ADS’s work is not. ADS will continue supporting students with accommodation needs and advancing accessibility across ACC. Student Affairs and Basic Needs Systems are aligned in ensuring that our mission remains at the center of the transition.

There are no immediate changes to ADS’s day-to-day services, workflows, or office locations. As the functional area framework continues to be developed, additional details will be shared with ADS and Student Affairs staff.

Over the coming months, we will continue working together to plan for the December transition and identify opportunities for ADS to connect and collaborate across Student Affairs. More information will follow as details are finalized.

Please join us in welcoming our ADS colleagues to Student Affairs. We look forward to learning from their expertise and to the opportunities this transition creates to strengthen accessibility, belonging, and support for our students across ACC.

Thank you for continuing to keep our students at the center of our work.

Sincerely,

Shasta Buchanan, Ed.D
