New Online ADA Resource Guide!

In partnership with Utah's Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS), the IDRPP at Utah State University is enhancing accessibility and inclusion for individuals with disabilities through a new project named Accessibility & Health. Our resources, initially for local health departments, are beneficial for various organizations.

We are actively creating a resource guide on our website for understanding and adhering to ADA and other accessibility requirements specific to public health departments. Check it frequently, as we will be continually adding new products to our guide. And please let us know if you have one to add!

ADA Highlight - Accessible Electronic Documents

An important part of public health is education through reading materials and community events. In order to reach everyone in our service areas, all written products should be available in print as well as in accessible electronic form. This is especially important for community members who may have visual impairments and/or use screen readers or other assistive devices to take in information. Accessible electronic documents should include the following elements:

  • Clear, plain language
  • Large print
  • Text descriptions (called alt text) of pictures or graphs
  • Written accommodations to include people with disabilities at events

It is not enough to ensure physical accessibility to community facilities. Signage must also be made accessible for all!

If you haven't already been trained, please sign up for the Accessible Documents training through WebAIM at USU.
