Vacation time is finally here for many, and HMAA would like to remind members about accessing medical and pharmacy services while traveling.
  • To maximize your coverage and reduce out-of-pocket costs, be sure to bring your member ID card and locate participating providers in your travel area prior to leaving home. Remember that HiDoc, our telehealth service, is available nationwide.
  • HMAA's medical plans provide coverage for emergency or urgent care when traveling internationally.
  • Pharmacy benefits are not available when traveling internationally.
  • Dental services are not available outside of Hawaii.

Sun Safety
Sunburns can happen to anyone, so it is important to take prevention seriously. Too much unprotected exposure to the sun’s rays can cause skin and eye damage, immune system suppression, and skin cancer. Here are a few ways to protect yourself.
  • Cover up and wear high-SPF or tightly woven clothing that blocks out sunlight.
  • Wear sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 15, and reapply periodically.
  • Wear a hat that protects the neck, ears, eyes, forehead, nose and scalp.
  • Wear UV-absorbent sunglasses with side panels.
  • Limit sun exposure when possible.
