'Adventure plus learning opportunities'

It's a great location on a small caye approximately 38 miles offshore of Southern Belize. Reef CI provided my dive partner and me a unique opportunity to experience a great diving adventure and to expand our marine conservation knowledge base.

Our travel plans included time exploring Punta Gorda before and after our five night (Monday - Friday) stay on Tom Owen's Caye. After numerous trips to Northern Belize, the ReefCI package looked like an excellent opportunity to experience Southern Belize - both onshore and offshore-we were not disappointed.

There may be less expensive dive packages in Belize, but none offer the unique diving and educational experience provided by ReefCI. I still enjoy San Pedro, Belize and Northern Belize--but the Punta Gorda, Toledo district area, and Tom Owen's Caye provides an excellent change of scenery and new cultural experiences and less crowded diving locations.

Polly Alford did an outstanding job in helping us to explore the Punta Gorda area including visits to Mayan ruins, caving, and experiencing a local waterfall.

We dove three times a day starting at 7:30 a.m. The dive sites were all close by--no long boat trips. The head cook, Adrienne, always had great meals waiting for us on our return from diving. She served meals, including fresh fish, with excellent taste and quality based on local menus.

The entire staff was very "safety" aware! The facilities on the caye are rustic but comfortable. I stayed in one of several suites in the main structure. The main structure also included the kitchen and dining room. The dining room served as the lecture hall for the informative presentations on marine conservation presented by the staff. My suite had its own shower, toilet and toilet paper collection basket (no paper in toilet). The other lodging facilities on the island are individual stone structures or cabanas with shared restroom facilities in a separate structure.

In summary, whole experience provided a great location, excellent staff and a real educational opportunity.
