Achieving resilience through renewables-driven Community Microgrids
Facing increasing natural disasters and power outages, many communities are turning to Community Microgrids. In an article for Energy Central, Clean Coalition Executive Director Craig Lewis explains how we can proliferate these deployments, which includes establishing a standardized Value of Resilience (VOR123) for Tier 1 (critical), Tier 2 (priority), and Tier 3 (discretionary) loads.
Making progress on the Goleta Load Pocket Community Microgrid (GLPCM)
As part of our GLPCM Initiative, the Clean Coalition has made strides in advocating the need for indefinite renewables-driven backup power throughout the Santa Barbara region. The Santa Barbara County Strategic Energy Plan can play a vital role in bringing resilience to this disaster-prone stretch of Southern California coastline.
LADWP expands nation's largest rooftop solar Feed-In Tariff (FIT) program to 450 MW
The Clean Coalition offered guidance and support to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) for their initial 150 MW FIT program, CLEAN LA Solar. The addition of 300 MW to the program will unleash far more clean local energy and set the stage for renewables-driven resilience across Los Angeles.
Threat of Wildfires and Power Shutdowns Heightens Urgency for Microgrid in California Community
Microgrid Knowledge reports on the Clean Coalition's microgrid feasibility assessment for Calistoga, which will include designs for Community Microgrids at critical community facilities. Solar+storage Community Microgrids offer the best means for enhancing energy resilience in the region as quickly as possible.
PV Magazine op-ed: Electrification is an all-around winner
Program Manager John Sarter argues for a move away from fossil fuels to all-electric buildings, to both reduce emissions and build resilience. All-electric buildings are a key component of renewables+storage Community Microgrids, which provide communities unparalleled economic, environmental, and resilience benefits.
Making it easy to electrify and prepare for a resilient future
The Clean Coalition's Electrification & Community Microgrid Ready (ECMR) guidelines will help building owners, developers, and electrical engineers understand the simple, inexpensive wiring and components required to electrify structures and prepare them to connect to future Community Microgrids.
