Dear CRC,
I recently got back from an anniversary trip to Banff, Canada. It was beautiful, it was relaxing, it was filled with all the things I love most (mountains, lakes, rivers, my favorite travel buddy, and of course, coffee). It also had weather. Lots. Of. Weather. Before we headed out, I had checked the forecast multiple times. I read all about "typical weather in the Canadian Rockies." I learned that it could snow, it could rain, it could be crisp, maybe warm, and possibly even sub-freezing. So, I packed for all of it. And I needed it all! The beanie, the rain gear, the shorts and t-shirt, the puffer coat.
A while back, September's Hunger Awareness Month was renamed to Hunger Action Month. I loved that because knowing about something is only half of it. If I knew it was going to be cold but only packed shorts, my vacation might have been less enjoyable.
This month, CRC volunteers wore orange to promote awareness and shared with others the work we do to prevent hunger. But they also joined in the actual work that we do! They provided food, and clothing, and resources both directly and indirectly, through their time and talents. CRC volunteers make a real difference in the lives of others, and that is definitely another one of my favorite things! See below the many ways volunteers took action this month.

Bethlehem Serves
Bethlehem Lutheran Church sent teams out on September 15th to both our Food Pantry and to our Encinitas Resale Store to deep clean and organize. As always, both groups did an amazing job. Per the Resale Store Manager, Robert, " Another great group! They pulled old clothing, tagged and hung new clothing, and put us ahead at least two days!" Thank you!

St Mark's
St Mark's Church came out to our Food Pantry on September 22nd to deep clean inside and out! They power washed the front of the building, the breezeway, and then wiped down all shelves and surfaces inside. Our clients and volunteers all noticed the change when they came in on Monday. They are currently doing a congregation-wide food drive for CRC as well. Thank you!

2024/2025 Youth Advisory Board
Eleven students came out on Saturday, September 28th to go through an orientation, Ambassador Training, and learn more about how they can support CRC's marketing and communications team. Congratulations to CRC's Volunteer of the Month Jennifer Hawks!
Jennifer was nominated by the Development team for her timely support this month!
Her kids were back in school, and she reached out to see what we needed help with. As it happened, we had several things for her to do! Jennifer made phone calls to donors, did outreach for restaurant give-backs, and jumped in to work on preparations for an upcoming event.
Jennifer has prior experience as a project manager and marketer, and her enthusiasm, skill-set and her support of CRC's mission all make her a super-star part of the volunteer team.

Truck Driver Support Needed For Fall | |

CRC is looking for volunteers to ride along with our Truck Driver on Wednesdays, and as subs for when our regular volunteer team members are unable to do a shift. This is an early morning shift that requires some heavy lifting. Our drivers pick up food donations from local grocery stores which stocks our Food Pantry. Be a part of this incredible team! We can accommodate one-time volunteers as well as long-term volunteers for this. To learn more, contact the CRC Volunteer Manager.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
You can take action and spread awareness about this critical issue facing many of our neighbors.

Are you a group of 5-15 looking for a way to partner in CRC's mission? There are currently Food Pantry and Resale Store group opportunities available on some late afternoons and weekends. This may include deep cleaning, sorting, or stocking items. A cleaner Food Pantry allows our clients to have a more dignified shopping experience. And a clean store makes happy customers!
