Generally support for available, abundant, and affordable energy falls along party lines--with Republicans supporting "responsible" energy (the stuff that really works) and Democrats pushing "renewable" energy (the stuff they hope will work someday). When any elected official makes foolish choices, he or she needs to be called to task. But when a Republican is the make or break vote on an important energy vote, we must push him back onto the "right" side. Such is the case with Tennessee's Republican Senator Lamar Alexander.
Please read our friend Phil Kerpen's column regarding Senator Inhofe's resolution to overturn the mercury rule--which will only need 51 votes. With coal state Democrats, who are feeling the heat over President Obama's attacks on coal, joining Republicans, this should be an easily reachable number--but Senator Alexander is holding out.
Call Senator Alexander's office now (202.224.4944) and leave a message asking him to support for Senator Jim Inhofe's S.J. Res. 37 to overturn the Utility MACT rule!
Or, send an email saying:
"I urge you to take your responsibility as a United States Senator seriously and to stop the effort to usurp legislative power and make electricity prices skyrocket via the Utility MACT rule. I urge you to VOTE YES on S.J. Res. 37."
Please forward this Alert to everyone you know!
