ACTION ALERT: Call in Support of Bill to Help Synagogues Build Affordable Housing
Senate Bill (SB) 4 is facing its most critical vote on Monday, and we need your help to get it over this major hurdle.

About SB 4:
Authored by Jewish Caucus Co-Chair Senator Scott Wiener, the Affordable Housing on Faith Lands Act will make it easier and more cost-effective for synagogues and other religious organizations to develop affordable housing on their property. This will allow our communities live into their values of helping their neighbors and make a significant impact on the homelessness crisis.

JPAC is one of the lead sponsors on this critical bill (alongside the state's leading nonprofit housing associations, the Carpenters' union, and Inner City Law Center), and over 30 other Jewish organizations are supporting it.

It will be considered in the Assembly Natural Resources Committee on Monday. We need your help TODAY or TOMORROW to call the committee member nearest you to urge them to vote in support of SB 4.

How you can help in under two minutes:
See the list of the Assemblymembers on the committee below, and please call the Assemblymember(s) in the areas near you ahead of Monday's hearing.

Note: No prior experience is necessary. The script and phone number is provided for you below. It should take less than two minutes, and you you should not need to answer any content-specific questions.

“Hi, this is [name] and I'm calling as part of JPAC – the Jewish Public Affairs Committee, in support of Senate Bill 4. SB 4 would allow synagogues and other religious institutions to build 100% affordable housing on underutilized property they own. This would open up thousands of acres for affordable housing and allow religious institutions to serve our most vulnerable residents. The bill is supported by a coalition of over 300 faith, labor, housing, and equity groups. We urge the Assemblymember to vote yes when it comes up for a vote in committee. Thank you!”
