Contact your legislator and ask them to support I/DD services in the state budget.

Budget negotiations are moving really fast! Our Advocacy team has been working hard since last year asking legislators to help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Two of the many legislative agenda items we are focused on: a wage increase for direct support professionals (DSPs) and their supervisors. We are also asking for 25% of the NC Innovations Waiver waitlist (Registry of Unmet Needs) to be funded annually until no one remains on the RUN.

We've met with legislators to share these requests and given them lots of supporting information to help them see and understand the critical services these individuals provide. Now, we need your help.

Here's what you can do:

Tell your NC House Rep and NC Senator to increase wages for DSPs and their supervisors.

1) Email or call your NC House Representative and NC Senator with the following message:

“I am writing (calling) today to thank you for your continued support of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. I want you to know that direct support professionals need to have their wages increased to $18 per hour and supervisors of DSPs need their wages increased to $24 per hour. A DSP provides critical support that helps people with intellectual and developmental disabilities with daily living. They need to be paid more so they can stay in their job and not leave families who need them."

Tell your NC House Rep and NC Senator to fund 25% of the NC Innovations Waiver waitlist (the RUN).

1) Email or call your NC House Representative and Senator with the following message:

"I am writing (calling) today to thank you for your continued support of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. I also ask you to fund 25% the NC Innovations Waiver waitlist (Registry of Unmet Needs) annually until no one remains on the RUN. There are over 16,000 people with intellectual and developmental disabilities on the RUN who are waiting for critical services. "
