Trump Expands Forest Drilling
The administration released yet another rule that makes it easier to drill for gas and oil—this time in national forests. This is one in a series of actions by Trump to eradicate regulations that “burden development” on public lands.
This rule shackles oversight by the US Forest Service, sidesteps environmental assessments, and limits public input (again!) on proposed drilling.
Our national forests belong to all Americans, not just administration cronies that want to strip public land resources.
Forests are critical storehouses of carbon and provide us with clean air and clean water. Expanding energy extraction in our forests is shortsighted and detrimental to our health.
The proposed rule would increase carbon emissions and infrastructure development (roads, well pads, pipelines!), damage ecosystems, increase erosion, disturb wildlife, and fragment habitat.
