HB 51 Is Back!

Last week, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted unanimously to table HB 51, the harmful campus sexual assault bill. Tonight, the House brought it back. At 7pm, the House Rules committee gutted SB 71, a bill protecting health savings accounts in bankruptcy proceedings, and totally replaced it with the version of HB 51 that passed the House. SB 71 is the new HB 51. At 8:30pm, the House passed this new version of SB 71 by a vote of 102-56.

The Senate passed the original version of SB 71 more than a month ago. On Thursday, they will have a chance to agree or disagree to the House's changes to SB 71. We must urge them to disagree. Call your Senator and Lt. Governor Casey Cagle and urge them to disagree to the House's changes to SB 71. Then join us Thursday morning at the Capitol at 10am to show the Senate that we will oppose this bill no matter what form it takes.

If you are coming to the Capitol, please stay tuned for an update on when and where to meet. It will definitely be around 10:30am at the Capitol, but where in the Capitol is TBD and will be sent out tomorrow.

Thursday is the last day of the 2017 legislative session. Stand up for survivors of sexual assault. Help us show the General Assembly that we will not allow them to force through this harmful bill in the final hours of the session.

Until justice,
