Rider to Extinction
A rider on the 2022 Interior & Environment Appropriations Bill spells doom for the greater sage-grouse—and we need your help to get it excluded.
The rider resurfaced under the Trump administration and it prohibits the US Fish and Wildlife Service from considering protection for this imperiled species under the Endangered Species Act.
Why this little bird?
The sage-grouse—best-known poster child of the sagebrush steppe landscape—has struggled for survival—populations have declined 80% over the past 50 years.
When a species is placed on the endangered species list, its habitat must be protected; and in the case of the sagebrush biome, that also benefits more than 350 other species.
Sagebrush steppe lands have decreased by half thanks to energy development, mining, overgrazing, and other destructive uses.
Take Action Now
Time is running out for the sage-grouse and the habitat that supports so many species.
Please call/email today and urge the House and Senate Appropriations Committee Chairs and Ranking Members to exclude this rider from the Appropriations Bill.
