Save the Boundary Waters—Again!
Here's our chance to protect it permanently.
The Biden Administration announced the review of the unlawful reinstatement and renewal of mineral leases held by Twin Metals that threaten the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW).
These leases were terminated in 2016, however in 2018 the Trump administration reinstated the leases without completing a full Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).
The BWCAW is an important water source, provides critical habitat, and is one of the most popular recreation destinations in the nation. The science shows that protecting the watersheds surrounding the BWCAW is vital.
Senator Tina Smith (D-MN) sent a letter to Secretaries Vilsack and Haaland urging the administration re-initiate an environmental review. Support within Minnesota is high and her letter carries weight in this fight.
The ultimate goal is permanent protection to prevent any future attempt to sanction industrial activities that could harm this American treasure.
