Urge
Support for Omnibus Clean Energy Bill
From Conference Committee
|
July 19, 2018
Clean energy legislation impacting climate change has taken a dramatic, hopeful turn at the State House thanks to the efforts of the League and other organizations.
We need your help to continue to move this legislation forward. Here is where things stand today:
- The Senate Ways & Means Committee took up an energy bill to increase the renewable portfolio standard passed by the House last week and added an amendment that removed the text of the House bill in its entirety and inserted instead the text of the Senate Omnibus Energy Bill. Senate Ways & Means released the bill, now S.2608, with a recommendation to the full Senate to pass it.
- This means that the Senate Omnibus Energy bill, passed unanimously by the Senate June 14, is now back in play. We want this bill to pass!
- A conference committee has been appointed to determine the wording of the bill that would go to both chambers for an up-or-down vote. Conference Committee members are:
House
: Thomas Golden, Patricia Haddad, Bradley Jones
Senate: Michael Barrett, Marc Pacheco, Patrick O'Connor
This conference committee and subsequent votes in both chambers are our last chance to get strong clean energy legislation this session! We are down to the wire and must not wait another two years or longer.
What you can do:
Call and email your Representative, Speaker DeLeo, and members of the Conference Committee over the next week. Contact information is below. Here's what to tell them:
Climate change is an urgent issue that requires comprehensive action now. The expected Conference Committee report is our last hope this session. We urge:
- Keeping all aspects of the Senate Energy Omnibus Bill, now included in S.2608, and allowing both chambers to vote on strong, comprehensive clean energy legislation that will protect our citizens and our economy.
- Specific priorities included in S.2608 and supported by the League are:
▪
Increase the renewable portfolio standard by 3%
▪
Put a price on carbon that addresses transportation sector emissions
▪
Remove solar net metering caps
▪
Ensure equitable solar access for all
