When Oregon closed the Fairview Training Center, it created an innovative trust fund with the proceeds from the sale of institutions that segregated Oregonians with IDD. The Trust is intended to support Oregonians experiencing IDD by ensuring community housing opportunities exist for them.

! We need your help to protect the Trust Fund, and move the $6 million currently in the Fairview Trust to the Oregon Community Foundation where it can be used in a more effective way. You can help by contacting your
legislator
and asking them to support SB 491 to protect the funds in the Trust and move them to the Oregon Community Foundation.
The Fairview Trust Advisory Committee has been creating partnerships about how the trust can meet the needs of the 28,000 Oregonians currently experiencing IDD. If we are successful passing SB 491, the Fairview Trust Advisory Committee intends to use the trust dollars to increase affordable housing opportunities for Oregonians experiencing IDD based
on the input received from self-advocates, family members and other community members.
Two ideas currently being considered by the Fairview Trust Advisory Committee include: 1) increasing the number of affordable and accessible apartment homes through partnerships with housing providers in our community. Trust resources would help pay for adaptations at the time of construction to affordable apartments; and 2) Support for people to access these affordable apartment homes by helping with deposits and other move in costs.
We need your help to protect the Trust and ensure it can be used to help create housing opportunity into the future. We urge you to call your Legislators today and ask for their support of SB 491.Take a moment to share with your Legislator how important it is that people experiencing IDD have safe, appropriate, and affordable housing, and what it might mean for people.
