Hearing on title loan debt traps next week! Urge Senator Miller to support SB 329!
On Monday, February 24 at 1pm, the Senate Finance Committee will convene a hearing on Senate Bill 329, also known as the Motor Vehicle Title Loan Act, to address title loan debt traps.
SB 329, introduced by Senator Randy Robertson (R-Columbus) and
co-signed by Finance Committee Chairman Senator Chuck Hufstetler (R-Rome), would protect Georgians from predatory, high-interest title loans by closing legal loopholes and capping interest rates.
We strongly support this legislation.
We are asking you to make an important call to Senator Butch Miller (R-Gainesville) today to urge him to support SB 329 to protect all Georgians from dangerous loans that trap consumers in a cycle of debt.
Here is a simple sample script you can use:
Hi, my name is ____________________, and I am a constituent of District 49. I live in [name city or county in district]. I am calling in anticipation of the Senate Finance Committee hearing on SB 329. I support SB 329 to protect Georgians from harmful title loans and will be watching the hearing.
Here, you can share with them your own personal story about title lending, or why you feel passionate about the bill. Limit it to 15 seconds. If not, continue:
I hope Senator Miller will see the value in supporting SB 329 and support the bill. Thank you very much.
