Call to Action: Special Educators and Related Service Providers Demand Workload Relief
We Must Demand that the President, Congress, and Betsy Devos Take Action on Special Education (IDEA)

Here is the information on the three actions we shared on the Zoom Call on Thursday May 7, 2020. We need to take action to address the impact the COVID-19 closure has had on Special Educators.  We are sending you the step by step instructions to read and share with other Special Educators.

1)      DEMAND TIME: We are asking all Special Educators and related service providers to utilize this form letter to request the time allowed by the negotiated agreement to their supervisors. Please take this letter and make it you own anecdotal record of the tremendous workload you are carrying as a Special Educator. Please complete the form and give it to your supervisor as soon as possible. The Negotiated Agreement allows for you to have days to complete your IEPS. We need everyone to make this request.  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1h-EECy3zOsFCwSugBM8I9eUeETYiU_hPMUom09aFifQ/edit?usp=sharing

2)        SHARE YOUR STORY: The National Education Association needs your authentic stories on how the lack of flexibility on IDEA mandates. Please take a moment and send the letter to your principal or supervisor to NEA as well using this link.  https://educationvotes.nea.org/action/ideastories/ You should also sign up to get updates on IDEA from NEA using this link  https://educationvotes.nea.org/issue/idea-special-education/ . NEA needs your voice and stories to share with members of Congress.

3)       EMAIL FEDERAL LEADERSHIP: Write a letter to the President, your Congressional Delegation and the Secretary of Education. We have drafted the letter for you to personalize and send. Simply click below where it says start writing to email your representatives.
