MISSOURI RIGHT TO LIFE
SUPPORT OF SS#2 SCS SB 22
AND THE EMERGENCY CLAUSE
April 15 2025
In our battle to protect and restore respect for women and babies, Missouri Right to Life strongly supported the passage of SS#2 SCS SB 22 as it came to the House from the Senate with the Emergency Clause. The House voted do pass SS #2 SCS SB 22 with the Emergency Clause and this life-saving legislation, after signatures, will be on its way to Governor Mike Kehoe.
There are multiple reasons this legislation and the emergency clause are critical. In addition to ensuring that the courts do not rewrite the ballot language the legislature has put forth, we have to also look at the lives that will be harmed and lost. Without this legislation and emergency clause women will be harmed and thousands of babies lives will be lost between now and August 31st because of unrestricted abortions in the Missouri Constitution.
Under this legislation, Attorney General will be able to restore respect for women and babies through the legal process of reviewing the court’s injunctions that have put thousands of lives at risk in Missouri. There is a clear and compelling interest for the State of Missouri to relook at a ruling by any court that subverts clearly needed protections.
In an analysis done on abortion, it is estimated that thousands of lives could be lost to unrestricted abortions between now and August 31, 2025. Missouri Right to Life asks Governor Kehoe to act quickly to ensure women and children are protected with critical laws.
