Hello Tim,

Are you appalled at the actions of Trump and his minions? You are not alone!

Millions have been affected by Trump's order to pause disbursement of all federal financial assistance on January 25. The clear and present threat to those on assistance as well as non-profits is understandably concerning. Questions arose over the effect on Infrastructure initiatives and climate action. Readers can find out about this illegal action in this comprehensive post.

By the end of the day a Federal Court questioning the constitutionality of the action put a stay Trump's irresponsible maneuver. The action points out the importance of insuring integrity in our legal system. This newsletter explores the importance of Wisconsin's enormously important Spring Election.

On Wednesday, January 29, Trump rescinded his order, while promising a renewed assault on those least able to deal with his actions.

On Thursday, January 30, a national tragedy occurred. A horrific air accident occurred over the Potomac River in our Nation's Capital. Immediately, Trump blamed others with no evidence to support his allegations. Rather than expressing empathy for lives lost, he chose to politicize the disaster. He cited the tenets of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion as factors in the catastrophe. Disgusting!

This newsletter also offers a cautionary warning and resources for ICE raids directives that could threaten the safety of our friends and neighbors. It also chronicles elevated authoritative actions and a moral rebuke. Finally, Mount Horeb musician Den Egstad is featured in this newsletter performing a song which is as relevant today as when it was written in 1948.

We will make it through this difficult period together.

SUPPORT & WORK TO ELECT SUSAN CRAWFORD

FOR JUSTICE!

WHY IT MATTERS

Wisconsinites will head back to the ballot box on April 1 to vote for the state’s next Supreme Court justice.

Longtime Justice Ann Walsh Bradley is retiring from the court this spring, and two candidates are running to fill her spot: liberal Dane County Judge Susan Crawford and former Republican attorney general and now Waukesha County Judge Brad Schimel.

It’s a critical race that is likely to garner a lot of attention and outside funding. But why exactly is this race so important?

JUST DEPORTEES

In 1948 Woody Guthrie wrote Deportee, the song that chronicles a plane crash at Los Gatos Canyon in California which killed 28 migrant workers. Those killed were dehumanized in the press which simply referred to them as ”deportees". The song speaks of the dehumanization of the migrant community, sadly relevant in these times we endure. Below is a rendition of Deportee performed by Mount Horeb troubadour and SWWAP supporter Den Egstad.

Donald Trump, Commander of Chaos

Donald Trump has signed an executive order to prepare a huge detention facility at Guantánamo Bay that he said could be used to hold up to 30,000 immigrants deported from the US. He has perpetuated fear, chaos and torment with his racist rhetoric and brutal round-up directives. His tactics will lead to economic stress as well as human misery.

In a courageous moral declaration, Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde addressed Donald Trump, who sat in the front row of the National Cathedral.

"In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country. We’re scared now. The people who pick our crops and clean our office buildings, who labor in poultry farms and meatpacking plants, who wash the dishes after we eat in restaurants and work the night shifts in hospitals. They may not be citizens or have the proper documentation, but the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals. They pay taxes, and are good neighbors. They are faithful members of our churches and mosques, synagogues, gurdwara, and temples. I ask you to have mercy, Mr. President, on those in our communities whose children fear that their parents will be taken away, and that you help those who are fleeing war zones and persecution in their own lands to find compassion and welcome here".

Obviously her words were ignored by an American despot.
