SUICIDE PREVENTION MONTH

UPDATES

As Suicide Prevention Month (#SPM23) continues, the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention (Action Alliance) hopes to once again unite the field to amplify messages about the significant role we all play in being there for others. This is the third in a series of e-blasts aimed at equipping our partners with the necessary resources and tools to plan for and participate in this important national conversation.

As #SPM23 continues, and throughout the year, it is important to utilize the Action Alliance's Framework for Successful Messaging to prioritize effective messaging about suicide prevention.

The Framework emphasizes promoting hope, help-seeking, and resiliency when discussing suicide and suicide prevention. It includes the essential components of developing a strategy, prioritizing safety, conveying a positive message, and adhering to relevant guidelines.

Additionally, the Action Alliance encourages partners to continue to use the 988 Messaging Framework as they are planning for and developing their 988-related messages. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) developed a 988 Partner Toolkit to equip the field with key messages, answers to frequently asked questions, branding guidelines, etc.

Participants

Thank you to everyone who participated in our annual #BeThere Twitter (X) Chat for #SPM23. The chat was a great way for our public and private partners, state-level organizations, and individuals to share their thoughts on aspects of suicide prevention. See the 2023 #BeThere Twitter Chat recap here.

The Action Alliance will continue promoting #BeThere messages throughout September (#SPM23), and year-round. See partner campaigns and resources on our #BeThere page.

Calling all Faith Leaders

Join the Action Alliance and the HHS Center for Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships on September 26 at 3 p.m. ET to hear how faith and community leaders can be and are involved as partners in youth suicide prevention. As trusted messengers in their communities, faith leaders have an especially important role to play in their healing process.

This webinar will celebrate the launch of the new resource guide, HOPE: A Guide for Faith Leaders on Youth Suicide Prevention, developed in partnership with the HHS Center for Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships and the Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention. The purpose of this guide is to provide faith leaders with guidance for identifying and helping youth who may be at risk for suicide. Join in fostering a sense of connectedness, meaning, and hope for our youth.

Register for the webinar here.
