Joint Commission Preparation - High Risk Medical Equipment

Dear Colleagues:

In an effort to continually strive for patient and staff safety we would like to address some medical equipment maintenance delinquencies. The initial step will be to focus on High-Risk Medical Equipment. Our goal is a 100% inventory and up to date inspection for all equipment. Please click here to review a brief slide presentation with more information.

! Action Items:
  • Identify: We are asking that you look for your practice's High Risk Item inventory Report (click here to access on SharePoint - inventory is listed in separate files by location).
  • If your location does not have an inventory report listed, you will need to create one. Please complete the inventory form (click here to download) and return it via email to Biomedical Engineering at MGH Biomedical Engineering
  • Download and Submit the Inventory Response Form (click here to download the PDF Form) to complete and submit no later than 11/20/20.
  • Please be sure to include the name of a point person and your location (address building and suite) so that we can follow up and ensure required inspections and maintenance are completed.
  • Locate: If you locate, or are aware of, any equipment without a Biomedical Engineering control number label or inspection label (see PowerPoint) please complete the inventory form (click here to download) and return it via email to Biomedical Engineering at MGH Biomedical Engineering
  • The equipment will be added to our database to improve future tracking and ensure the equipment receives the required maintenance and inspection.
  • Communicate: If any of the High-Risk equipment in your clinics are overdue for maintenance or inspection, please remove them from clinical use and call Biomedical Engineering at 617-724-1333 to schedule the required maintenance as soon as possible. Communication and follow-up are key to ensuring all equipment is accounted for and safe for use.

We ask that you please submit your findings to us no later than Friday, November 20, 2020. If you have questions or would like additional information please email MGH Biomedical Engineering.

These steps will build an excellent foundation for the road ahead, ensuring timely maintenance of all medical equipment. Thank you for the time and effort that this will take, and please know that we will certainly provide assistance in any way we can.
