ACTION ALERT: CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES TO CHANGE THEIR VOTE ON NONPROFIT-TARGETING H.R. 9495

The following 52 Democrat House Representatives voted to pass H.R. 9495, the Stop Terror-Financing and Tax Penalties on American Hostages Act, which is designed to aid the incoming Trump administration in targeting progressive nonprofits to strip their tax-exempt status.

The bill was defeated last week, but there is another vote expected this Thursday. This bill would give the incoming Trump administration the power to arbitrarily shut down nonprofits like WELC as well as news outlets, universities, and other entities that safeguard the public interest, whether that involves protection of civil and human rights or the West’s lands, waters, wildlife, and communities, in opposition to the Trump agenda.

This is a full red alert, representing an enormous threat to free speech, the right to dissent, the new resistance, and the checks and balances essential to a healthy democracy in the United States of America.
