Last week we met at The Southern Bostonian's Wicked Brews & Brushes where owner Kristina Whitten urged every Selma business to CONNECT & ENGAGE on social media by promoting our 50-50 raffle (drawing in Nov. 9) and 3 targeted shopping weekends: Selma Railroad Days (Oct. 7-9), Holiday Open House (Nov. 5), Ultimate Gift-Giving Weekend (Dec. 3). That's her strategy and here's her record of success: July sales at her shop surpassed her entire Holiday 2021 season. So, follow the leader with these tips:
Every day, Like, Follow, Post and Share any Selma presence on social media. Set aside 10 minutes daily to click, click, click. Here's our TOP TEN leading the way:

Sergio Benitez expects to move Sola Creations to South Raiford Oct. 1. He urged Activate Selma's board to get our nonprofit status done! He made two suggestions: engage more Latino entrepreneurs in our activities and translate everything into Spanish for those Hispanic residents who are a growing part of our local economy, but are spending their money elsewhere because we're not reaching them.

"We have to sell them on Selma."
After the meeting, William White gave us a quick tour of Raiford Hall, the ideal location for a future restaurant, brewery and tap bar. Upstairs are seven luxury apartments, near completion. The property is in the heart of Selma's Downtown Historic District, within walking/biking distance of Selma Union Depot and the main artery for feeder neighborhoods in all four directions. "We don't need to sell them on the property," said William, pointing out the "good bones" and features that the architect and renovators are saving while incorporating a design that honors valuable input from successful brewers, bar owners and restaurateurs. "We have to sell them on Selma." That's where Activate Selma can help, by sharing Selma's new, exciting narrative, and shining a spotlight on the people who are investing in Selma's present and future.

Reaching out to young entrepreneurs
Michael Sneed held a meeting for youth who want to become "associate vendors" in spring/summer 2023 by checking out his new JoCo Ice Cart - pulled like a wagon, packs a battery-operated generator and holds 15 gallons of product. Young entrepreneurs will be able buy, sell & serve 5 flavors his Old Fashioned Ice Cream products and keep their profit. Watch the first 30 minutes of his presentation on his YouTube channel. Also, he's headed to Seattle, WA this fall to help educators set up a work-study program on appliance repair for young people!
