Program Guide


The 50+ Active Lifestyles program guide is available at recreation centers, county buildings, and libraries. It's also available online. Registration for programs and activities is ongoing The guide was sent to those on our mailing list.

How to Register for Programs


When you are interested in registering for programs, please visit our registration website to set up an account first.

  • Online registration is the quickest and easiest way to enroll in an activity.
  • Phone registration is available by calling 804-748-1623. Have a credit card ready.
  • You can mail-in a registration form and attach a check or money order. With mail-in, popular programs may already be filled when your payment arrives.
  • Also, you can walk-in at our Parks and Recreation Administration Office at 6901 Hopkins Road on weekdays, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. to register in person.

Senior Prom 2023

Chesterfield County Aging and Disability Services, Parks and Recreation and Schools hosted the annual Senior Prom on Friday, May 19. The theme was Motown but participants could also wear their Sunday best. Over 300 attended. A good time was had by all, and there was even a conga line.

Huguenot Road Baptist Church

The Active Lifestyles program at Huguenot Road Baptist Church has been busy recently. The Floral Arrangement Workshop and Ukulele classes were well attended.

Home Sweet Home. Whether it’s home modifications, decluttering or downsizing, a Senior’s biggest dread is having to choose between memories and necessities. The key is to prepare physically, mentally, and emotionally to know that in the end continuing to live your best life in the best environment is your best investment. Presented by Dawn Beninghove, RN and Owner/Chief Executive Officer of Companion Extraordinaire.

Winging It: Gardening for Birds and Butterflies

Rather than “winging it,” plan ahead for your winged visitors. This presentation teaches you how to attract birds and butterflies through late summer and into early fall with what you plant and how you garden. Master Gardener, Lela Martin, gives you tips and techniques that will help you enjoy these beautiful, winged creatures in your own yard. Participants will receive a natural bird feeder provided by the children’s program at CBC.

Hawaiian Luau and Hula Dancers

The Mechanicsville Hula Dancers will bring the tropics and say “aloha” to the summer through Hawaiian Hula dance, tunes, and costumes. Hula dramatizes or portrays the words of a story, poem, or song (mele) in dance form. The Hula dancer’s upper body interprets the story of the song or chant, and the lower body keeps the beat. Live music will be played by DJ Dennis Collins. Refreshments provided by Spring Arbor Senior Living.

Getting Your Home Ready For Sale: Tricks of the Trade

Participants will learn the several steps in getting their house ready for selling. Diane Andrews, a Certified Stager and Senior Real Estate Specialist, specializes in working with Seniors who are downsizing to a smaller home/apartment or moving to an assisted living facility/nursing home and need the extra help.

Understanding Your Grandchild with Autism – NEW

Do you have a grandchild or another family member who has been diagnosed with Autism? In this presentation, Dr. Sarah Doyle and Rachel Pretlow from the Autism Society of Central Virginia (ASCV) will share information on common characteristics that many autistic individuals share and helpful tips for effective communication, positive interactions, strategies for support, and more. There will be opportunities for questions and discussions as well.

Plant Exchange – NEW

Join us for a free plant exchange where participants will learn about preparing their gardens for fall. Master Gardener, Lela Martin, will give a 45-minute presentation and the plant exchange will take place after. Please bring three plants for the exchange. Each plant should be labeled (common name, soil conditions, dry or wet, shade or sun, mature size, fast or slow growing, native or non-native). Refreshments provided by Aetna and Sunrise at Bon Air Assisted Living and Memory Care.

"Classic Country Jubilee", Selma, N.C.

The Rudy Theater in Selma, North Carolina, traces its roots back to the traditions of the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee. Chesterfield Baptist Church

On Thursday, May 18, Peggy Singlemann, host of Virginia Home Grown, presented “Native Plants for Any Landscape” at the Chesterfield Baptist Church location. Peggy’s extensive knowledge of gardening and landscape management informed the audience and generated many questions. A plant exchange followed this presentation.

Then on Thursday, June 8, Coline Hay, with the Rockwood Nature Center, brought animals such as hissing cockroaches, a milk snake, box turtle and a frog. The children and adults were able to interact with the animals and ask questions.

Congratulations to our three participants who completed the 125 Mile Walking Challenge: Sharon Karnes, Theresa Kitts, and Jackie Brooks.  Currently 32 walkers are signed up. There is still time to join and complete the challenge.


"Walk to the Beach" 125 Mile Walking Challenge

You are welcome to walk in parks, your neighborhood, or any place you choose but you need to walk with a purpose and record your miles. *The first 50 people to walk 125 miles will receive a free t-shirt compliments of Aetna. Please pick up a challenge walking log at Stonebridge. If you have questions, please call 804-768-7885.
