Moving Communities Forward on Active Transportation

1000 Friends of Wisconsin invites you to a special in-person event and network meeting called Moving Communities Forward on Active Transportation. Join Active Wisconsin members from around the state at the beautiful Lawrence University campus in downtown Appleton on Friday, October 6. Hear from special guests Assembly Representatives Kristina Shelton and Lee Snodgrass, who are champions for safe routes and state policies that support active transportation in Wisconsin. Guest speakers will share special presentations about transit and mobility, livable communities, and a new model for community engagement in local transportation planning.

This event is free, but be sure to register by September 18, 2023! Breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be provided for all attendees.

Moving Communities Forward on Active Transportation is funded in whole by the Medical College of Wisconsin endowment for Advancing Healthier Wisconsin.

Introducing Carl Glasemeyer

Please join us in giving a warm welcome to the newest member of our staff, Carl Glasemeyer! Carl is the Transportation Policy Analyst for 1000 Friends of Wisconsin.

Carl Glasemeyer entered the field of urban planning as a citizen advocate while working as a visual artist and educator. After graduating from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2021 with a Master’s of Urban Planning, Carl worked as a multimodal transportation planner for Wisconsin Department of Transportation in the Southeast Region. Carl has experience reviewing bicycle and pedestrian facilities design, promoting safety improvements for roadway projects, and coordinating with project managers to ensure ADA compliant design. Carl sits on the steering committee for Wisconsin’s Coalition for More Responsible Transportation and advocates for a systematic revision of Wisconsin’s highway network to reconnect communities.

Carl enjoys growing native flowers, cooking elaborate meals, and admiring a well-designed street.

The Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation's Environmental Education and Stewardship Grants program provides support to nonprofit organizations in the communities served by Dominion Energy companies for projects to improve the environment. This includes some areas of Wisconsin. Applications are due September 30, 2023. Read more and apply here.

The Fund for Wild Nature provides small grants to grassroots organizations to protect biodiversity and wilderness. The next deadline is October 1, 2023. Learn more here.

The Local Infrastructure Hub is a new initiative led by Bloomberg Philanthropies to help small cities navigate the maze of grant opportunities available from the federal government. Learn more here.

T-Mobile is awarding grants up to $50,000 to revitalize small communities. The next deadline is September 30, 2023. Read more and apply here.

The Toyota Mobility Foundation is accepting applications for the Sustainable City Challenge, a two-stage, 3-year grant opportunity worldwide. The deadline is September 18, 2023. Learn more and apply here.

USDOT has released a Notice of Funding Opportunity for the next round of grants for the Reconnecting Communities and Neighborhoods program. Applications are due September 28, 2023. Learn more here.

The Vision Zero Network is offering mini grants to support organizers of local events for the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, which is November 19, 2023. Apply here.
