You may remember Rosie as the jeopardy obsessed girlfriend of Woody Harrelson in "White Men Can't Jump" or the materialistic wife of Nicholas Cage in "It Could Happen to You".


 

 

 Ms. Perez is an Academy Award nominee whose acting credits include the films "Do The Right Thing", "White Men Can't Jump", "Fearless", "It Could Happen to You", and numerous others, including her new movie just released "Wont Back Down".   

 

   

 

 In addition to acting,  Rosie is a choreographer whose work includes music videos for LL Cool J, Diana Ross, Janet Jackson and the Fly Girls, on the 1990's hit TV show "In Living Colour".  

 

 

  

But most importantly, Rosie Perez is a tireless activist for underserved youth, public schools, and the Latino community in America.  In 2010 she was appointed to the Presidentiary Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS and has served as chair of the artistic board at Urban Arts Partnership since 1994.

  Too often we read about the negative side of Hollywood.  We probe the private lives of celebrities and expose their flaws, addictions, infidelities, family secrets, and other "wrongdoings".  Granted, most celebrities have chosen a career that thrusts them right to the top of the judgment block, but that doesn't excuse the fact that we are doing just that - judging.  Nor does it justify our obsession with their shortcomings.  We are all human after all, right? 

 

  Here's what we don't hear enough of -- the outstanding humanitarian, activist and advocacy work that many of the stars are doing to help make this world a better place.  This is exactly what we should be paying attention to because so many of our young people (and adults) look to these individuals as role models and there are a large amount of celebrities that do amazing, tireless work for others [continue reading] ...�
