'Tis the Season for Resolutions
Amanda Merenda
Greetings!

With 2013 well underway, the new year is always a time for new resolutions. Many people tend to overindulge at holiday parties and events which means that health and weight loss resolutions are always at the top of everyone's list.
If your new year's resolution is to be healthier in 2013 then this month's newsletter will prove to be very helpful for you.

Yours in health,
Amanda Merenda, B.Sc, R.Ac, C.K

Learn how to stay healthy all year round by following the principles of Chinese Medicine
Factors to Longevity
Wooden Chair According to Chinese philosophy there are 3 major factors that predict longevity:

1. Constitution (Genetics)

2. Luck (being born into a country where you have access to medicine, shelter, food and clean water)
3. Behavior/Lifestyle *

Of these 3 factors the only one that you have the ability to manage yourself is
behavior/lifestyle. Just by making small behavior and lifestyle changes you can significantly improve the quality and quantity of your life.

There are 4 behavior/lifestyle factors that you can moderate in order to live your healthiest life:
1. Mind and emotions
2. Diet
3. Work to rest ratio
4. Sleep
These 4 factors each make up the 4 legs of a chair - all need to be intact in order to be healthy.
Ask yourself: Which of these lifestyle factors do I do well? and which areas do I need improvement on?

One of the most important and often overlooked aspects of making any behavior/lifestyle new years resolution last ALL year long is consistency. That means setting goals that are sustainable and not so drastic that you need to overhaul your entire lifestyle (Example, I often hear people say they want to eliminate "Carbs" and by this they mean bread, pasta and rice. Not only is this unhealthy it is also impractical because at some point down the road you will end up eating these foods again and your body will react by storing these foods rather than eliminating them). By making small, gradual changes you are more likely to stick to these goals long term as they will become a HABIT (For the above example this would mean reducing your intake of starchy foods rather than eliminating them).

Please feel free to contact me directly to find out how you can make behavior and lifestyle changes that are specific to your needs and health goals.
