The California Judges Foundation (CJF) was founded in 1966 as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit, tax-exempt corporation. CJF is administered by the California Judge's Association staff and supervised by a nine-person Board of Directors.

CJF is dedicated to educating the public about the importance of an impartial judiciary for the administration of Justice in California.

CJF offers a need-based scholarship to aspiring law students in California through the Adam Z. Rice Memorial Scholarship. The Adam Z. Rice Memorial Scholarship Fund celebrates the life of a young man who died at age 21. Adam was always trying to help others in need, whether it was the homeless or his classmates. The CJF now has an incredible opportunity to continue Adam’s legacy and fulfill its mission, promote education, and make a lasting impact on future generations devoted to the rule of law and equal access to justice.

Eligibility Criteria:

This scholarship is open to anyone attending an ABA-Approved law school in California or any California resident attending an ABA-Approved law school. The applicant must also demonstrate financial need.

Application Requirements:

The student must complete the online application by August 14, 2026.

The applicant must provide proof of full-time enrollment.

The applicant must submit a 2-minute video along with the application (requirements below).

Video Requirements:

Applicants must submit a video that is no more than two minutes long and in it, answer the following questions:

• Who are you?
• What qualifies you to be considered for this financial needs-based scholarship?
• What role should the legal system play in regulating the use of social media?
