“And behold, angels of God were ascending and descending” (Genesis 28:12). 

Why in Yaakov’s inspiring vision of his ladder, were the angels ascending from below? Do angels not originate in Heaven? 

The vision is a shift in orientation. God has plenty of angles in Heavens. Our primary mission in life is to create angels here on Earth and each one of our actions creates a spiritual force below (Pirkei Avot 4:11). Robert Louis Stevenson once said: “Sooner or later everyone sits down to a banquet of consequences.” At our banquet let’s hope we meet the type of angels in Yaakov’s vision.
