Dear Steve,

DID YOU KNOW that sometimes forgetting is okay? A degree of forgetfulness is perfectly normal and even necessary for our brains to function properly, according to the new book The Psychology of Memory.

Rather than working like a recording device, our memory is more like a document where details can be edited and updated over time. This allows our brains to store more general information and adapt to new situations.

Because we are most aware of our memory when we have trouble remembering something, we might be a little biased about how bad our memory is.

If you are intent on improving your memory, it takes work like anything else. The book mentions several techniques that you can employ: retrieval practice, schema, and visual and auditory techniques.

Infection Support

For Prevention or During Infection

Year-round infection is the new normal. We are exposed to many endemic viruses including SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19), influenza (flu), respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), norovirus (stomach flu), adenovirus (common cold), monkeypox, and four other coronaviruses (common cold), among others. Support your immune system with our Free Prevent and Fight Infection 2.0 Protocol here.

Warning: Counterfeit, Adulterated Supplements Online

On the internet, especially at Amazon, there is an epidemic of counterfeit, adulterated, and purposely mislabeled dietary supplements. In September 2023, a man was arrested for selling counterfeit Pure Encapsulations products. A study from JAMA Network Open found that half of immune products analyzed from Amazon had labels that did not match the contents. The FDA sent a warning letter to Amazon in later December 2023.

Add 5 Years to Your Life

Steve: A healthy lifestyle could slash the effects of life-shortening genes by more than 60 percent, or add more than five years to your life, a new genetic study from BMJ Evidence-Based Medicine revealed.

Polygenic risk score evaluates multiple genetic variants in order to come up with a person’s overall genetic predisposition for living a longer or shorter life. Aside from these gene variants, tobacco use, alcohol consumption, diet quality, sleep, and physical activity level are all important factors for determining life expectancy as well.

Researchers followed 353,742 adults for 15 years. Results showed that those who had an unfavorable lifestyle were 78 percent more likely to die before their time than those with a favorable lifestyle, regardless of genetic predisposition.

The research team noted that not smoking, regular physical activity, getting enough nightly sleep, and most importantly, a healthy diet, were the fundamental habits that made up a favorable lifestyle.

Those at a high genetic risk of a shorter lifespan and who had an unfavorable lifestyle were more than twice as likely to die compared to those genetically predisposed to having a longer life with a favorable lifestyle.

This study is an example that adhering to a healthy lifestyle compared to an unhealthy lifestyle is a no brainer for longevity regardless of genetic makeup. However, it also shows that it’s possible to offset genes that predispose you to premature death by living a healthier lifestyle by a significant margin. In this case, up to a staggering 62 percent!

Case Report

Weaning Off Acid Reflux Medication

If you read this newsletter, you are aware of the litany of side effects that come with long-term proton pump inhibitor (PPI) use for gastrointestinal reflux (GERD). You may know these medications by the names Nexium, Omeprazole, Prevacid, Protonix, and among others.

A 65 year-old male came to see Steve because he was concerned about being on a PPI long-term.

After reviewing every aspect of his diet and lifestyle, Steve found numerous triggers that could be adjusted so his client could stop the PPI.

For example, the daily combination of coffee, cinnamon, turmeric, kombucha, apple cider vinegar, fluid cow's milk, and extreme stress made him extremely acidic.

Steve and his client agreed upon alternatives for all the food and beverage insults. Moreover, they found a stress management technique that would fit his lifestyle and that he would enjoy.

After adhering to the aforementioned for two weeks to relax his system, the client followed a 10 week weaning off the PPI medication.

After three short months, he successfully weaned off the PPI. The GERD that had plagued him for so many years now no longer exists!

Bladder Problem Resolved

According to The Cleveland Clinic: “When your bladder is full, you urinate and the waste leaves your body. But, if you have urinary retention, your bladder doesn’t completely empty when you pee. Things like blockages, medications or nerve issues can cause it.”

The April 2024 Annals of Vertebral Subluxation Research reported how a 61 year old woman had a history of chronic urinary retention. Medical interventions didn’t help so she chose to see if Chiropractic could. During the exam x-rays revealed decreased curves in her neck and back, a slight scoliosis and subluxations. All of these were chiropractic clues that the nerve signals from her spine to her bladder could be compromised.

She was placed under corrective care for a total of 24 visits over 60 days. She received spinal adjustments, traction and did wobble board exercises during each visit. At the end of her treatment plan she was given another set of x-rays. These revealed improvements in the subluxations, scoliosis as well as the curves of her neck and back. Equally as important, she no longer reported experiencing urinary retention.

Cleveland Clinic sited nerve issues as a cause for bladder symptoms. The improvements in her spine allowed the nerve signals to the bladder to work better and resolve this woman’s urinary retention. A great example of how connected everything is in the body. What health conditions are you ready to see if Corrective Chiropractic Care can help you with?
