Hunterdon County’s 9-1-1 Dispatchers
Recognized By International
Public Safety Organization
For Diligence On The Job
Hunterdon County’s Communications Division, the 9-1-1 dispatch center, was recognized by the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO) for their consistent dedication and distinguished service during the COVID-19 pandemic, Freeholder Matt Holt reported at a recent Freeholder meeting.

Freeholder Holt, the Board’s liaison to the County Public Safety Department, said, “Communications operators have been an integral part of the front lines team during the pandemic. Their dedication to the community has been highlighted by the fact that they haven’t been able to work remotely, showing up for each and every shift, serving all of us here in Hunterdon County.”

Hunterdon Recycling Drop Off Programs Conducted Safely And Successfully During 2020
Despite the challenges of the covid-19 pandemic, Hunterdon County’s recycling unit held five safe and successful drop off events this year for Electronics and Household Hazardous Waste, Freeholder Deputy Director Susan Soloway recently reported.

Freeholder Soloway, the Health Department liaison, said, “These drop off programs are free of charge to residents. They are funded through a state recycling grant and, most importantly, they keep these waste products from being dumped in open spaces or along the roadside.

The recycling program recorded almost 1,000 residents and more than 43 tons of electronic waste was dropped off in March and more than seven hundred residents dropped off over 35 tons of electronic waste in June.”

Hunterdon VoTech District Applying for Grant to Build New Facility at North Hunterdon,
Leave Bartles Corner Campus
Hunterdon County Vocational School District Superintendent Todd Bonsall recently explained to the freeholder board an educational and facilities development strategy that would see the county’s program leave its Flemington Bartles campus in the future and seek larger space accommodations at North Hunterdon High School.

Freeholder J. Matthew Holt told his colleagues and Bonsall that trends in the county’s workforce development are at the front of the discussion, as Hunterdon County’s population grew in the last 30 years of the 20th century, but at that time VoTech was established along that timeframe.

Over the long haul, he sees many benefits to the proposal.

“As far back as 10 years ago, we had said we need to find a better solution, and when will we find a direction for the PolyTech school,” he said. “But when we actually looked at cost per-education-hour that a student is receiving, it was tremendous. While it is being pointed out that the project when it is completed will be cost neutral and the county will be ahead minus the rental cost, the greater asset is that we are going to increase educational hours and create a much more normal educational scenario for every one of the PolyTech students, allowing students to get the greatest, broadest spectrum of education that they can have and to make the best decisions they can at that age, as to what their career paths may look like.”
