2024 Fall River Cleanup:

S. Hudson to Westfield

This Saturday, September 21

Hello, FoRR Volunteers! We hope you are as excited about the Fall 2024 Reedy River Cleanup as we are! Here is the information for your Fall Cleanup location this Saturday, September 21. Please review this information thoroughly.

Check-in begins at 8:30am!

Where to Park & Check-in Location

Check-in and park in the 355 S. Hudson St. parking lot located behind A.J. Whittenberg Elementary School and next to the Swamp Rabbit Trail, near the intersection of the SRT and S. Hudson. Look for the check-in spot in the parking lot next to the trail. Check-in located at approx. (34.849362, -82.409763). See map below for more details.

This location’s volunteers will focus on removing litter from the river and the surrounding wetlands on either side of the Swamp Rabbit Trail between S. Hudson Street and Westfield Street, and can move upstream to Unity Park, too. There are public restrooms near this site at the Unity Park visitor center and The Commons.

All participants, regardless of age, must have all necessary waivers filled and signed. Volunteers at this location will need to sign waivers for the City of Greenville at check-in. Minors (under 18) must have their waivers signed by a legal guardian before they can join any FoRR event. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a legal guardian at all times.

What to Do

Follow your site leader’s instructions at all times. Check-in is from 8:30 - 9 AM. We will collect litter from 9 - 11 AM. From 11 - 11:30 AM, we will ensure all litter is placed at the designated collection locations and that all equipment is returned to the check-in site. The cleanup will conclude at 11:30 AM.

What to Wear
Lightweight clothes. Long pants & long-sleeved shirts are recommended. Closed-toed shoes are required (old jogging shoes, closed-toed sandals, hip/chest waders, etc.). NO open-toed shoes. Clothes & footwear that you don’t mind getting wet and dirty. Please bring waders if you have them.
What to Bring
Bring a refillable water bottle and anything you need to be comfortable outdoors for up to three hours. Suggested items include a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a set of dry clothes and towel for after. We will provide litter grabbers, collection bags, and drinking water.
Afterwards

Celebrate your hard work at the 2024 Fall Cleanup Afterparty at Southernside Brewing Co.! Beginning at 11:30, Southernside will be graciously providing one free beer per person. Be sure to get a red ticket from your site leader before heading over! We hope to see you there!

In the event of inclement weather or unsafe river conditions, we will contact you via email on Friday before 5pm and will reschedule to our rain date of the following Saturday, September 28.
