Greetings! Our milestone anniversary year will conclude powerfully on Saturday, June 11, at our 22nd annual President’s Gala. Adelphi's traditional evening of fundraising for the President's Student Success Scholarship will, this year, proudly celebrate our University's 125-year legacy and bold future. My stories this month illustrate how we continue to lead and transform lives.  First, please join me in congratulating all three of Adelphi’s new Fulbright Scholars! Our latest multimillion-dollar grant will create change through a much-needed community learning center in a neighboring school district. An interdisciplinary grant is having an impressive impact on our nursing and social work students, and the children they're working together to help. And our undergraduate and graduate students' passion for deep inquiry and creativity was on full display at our 17th annual Scholarship and Creative Works Conference last month. $4.2M Grant to Help Local Students Adelphi’s long-running partnership with a school district in a neighboring community has led to a federal grant to create innovative summer and after-school programs designed to meet the needs of students and their families. Two Adelphi faculty members are leading this high-impact five-year effort. Academic Conference Our Largest Yet Undergraduate and graduate students presented STEM and liberal arts research, music and dance performances, original literature, and computer science and gaming demonstrations at our 17th annual Scholarship and Creative Works Conference. Building a Skilled Behavioral Health Workforce A year ago, Adelphi received a $1.92 million Interdisciplinary Education and Training Experience (IDEATE) grant. Through our partnerships with premier healthcare institutions, our nursing and social work students work together to help underrepresented children. Adelphi is making local, national and global news: Scientific American recently interviewed Adelphi biology professor Matthias Foellmer, PhD, about a fascinating new study on sexual cannibalism in some spider species. The story has also appeared in other international outlets, including German magazine Spektrum der Wissenschaft. CBS News New York featured Adelphi's Assistant Vice President and Chief Enrollment Officer Shawana Singletary in its “college decision day” story. PIX11 News showcased Adelphi's efforts on National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, when we collected more than 100 pounds of prescription medications for safe disposal. “Society demands that we are strong ... as people of color in general. So when society says you cannot burst at the seams, that then signifies that we have no other area where we can be our authentic selves.”
