After Adelphi: Recent Grads Share Their Success Stories

Adelphi graduates head into the workplace with a world-class degree and the essential skills they need to thrive in their new careers. That's the whole idea behind our “relentless dedication to student success” and highly personalized approach to learning.
 
A recent survey of our 2018 graduates shows that 95 percent of our undergraduates and 94 percent of our graduate students have jobs or are continuing their education within just six months of earning their Adelphi degree. Even more impressive —the average annual base salary of our baccalaureate grads is 25 percent above the national average. In fact, 20 of our academic programs are top ranked or in the top 10 percent for highest-paid graduates nationwide by College Factual.

This month, I would like to share with you some stories of recent Adelphi grads who are excelling.

A shortcut to success for Adelphi grads. The University's joint enrollment program with NYU makes it possible for students like Dasum Lee ’18 to earn their bachelor's and dental degrees in just seven years.
How a nursing grad became a nursing mentor. Alexandria Ruddy ’18 got plenty of leadership experience as president of Adelphi's Student Nurses Association. Now she's emerging as a leader in her nursing unit.
From programming newbie to cybersecurity expert, in four years. Rebecca Gotterbarn ’18 took her very first computer science class as a sophomore at Adelphi. Today she's a member of an elite cybersecurity team at IBM.
Adelphi theater grads get rave reviews. Sam Adams ’08 is getting incredible praise as Mozart in Amadeus, and Luke Hofmaier ’12 just received a best actor nomination from the prestigious Berkshire Theatre Critics.
Research: Faculty-student project leads to publication
Adelphi students often get the opportunity to do research with faculty members. Sometimes they even co-author papers announcing the team's findings. That happened this past January, when associate professor of chemistry and department chair Brian Stockman, PhD, and five of his students published their research results in the journal ACS Infectious Diseases. A student-athlete prepares for life after college
I hope you will take a moment to read a moving essay by Adelphi senior and star basketball player Austin Beech, who grew up in California never imagining he'd choose to go to college in New York. It was a huge decision that made him realize he needed to make the most of his opportunities. Now in his final season after being named Adelphi's Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year as a junior, he is reflecting on his experience at the University, and his future. Alumni making a difference: Elizabeth Daitz Lombardo ’02, JD
Career successes keep coming for Elizabeth Daitz Lombardo. After graduating from Adelphi and going to law school, she became the New York City Police Department's first executive director of civil litigation. Now she's been named a White House Fellow and will be working in the White House and across the country to study U.S. policies.
Momentum Tour 2019–2020
Our Momentum Tour picks up after the holidays with its first 2020 events, both in Florida. The first stop is Naples for a brunch on January 13 hosted by Pablo Pick ’65 and Karol Bolin Pick ’66. A day later, the tour crosses to the Atlantic side of the Sunshine State for an evening reception in Gulf Stream hosted by Trustee Dennis McDonagh ’78 and his wife, Lanore. I hope you will join me and fellow alumni and friends at an event near you.
Dr. Riordan is an internationally known expert and frequent speaker on leadership, diversity and inclusion, and career success. She has published nearly 70 academic and business press articles and is authoring  Shift Happens: How to Adapt and Thrive in a Rapidly Changing World of Work —a book on helping employees adapt to the changing workplace. Dr. Riordan’s TEDx talk, “Dare to Be Extraordinary,” has received more than 20,000 views. She has been interviewed by and written articles for media such as  The Financial Times , the Harvard Business Review , Forbes and HuffPost .
