Garces Family,

The safety and health of our students has and always will be a top priority here at Garces Memorial High School. With that said, we understand that spending hours a day staring at a computer/tablet screen impacts our students' mental health.

While our students have done a great job of staying attentive and focused during their classes, we know it's hard. That is why we have decided to reduce the required class time by 30 minutes, starting Monday, September 21st. Each class period's instruction time will now be an hour, with the remaining 30 minutes allowing students to receive help from that specific instructor or take a break from their screens. Please note, there may be a few times where teachers will need to go over the one hour instruction time to ensure all material is covered. This plan allows for Enrichment to be built directly into our curriculum. Each class period will still start and end at the same time, and our after school Enrichment periods will not change. For example, on a Green 1 schedule Period 1 starts at 8 a.m. and goes until 9:30 a.m. The teacher will teach from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and will be available for the remainder of the class period for additional help. Students are not required to stay on Zoom for the last 30 minutes, but can if they want or need. Period 3 will still start at 9:55 a.m. and go until 11:20 a.m. with the instructor teaching the first hour, leaving the last 30 minutes for additional help.

The regular school day schedules will not change. White days will still end at 1:30 p.m. with Enrichment to follow and Green Days will still end at 2:50 p.m. with Enrichment following. After school Enrichment will remain by appointment only.

We understand this does not make up for the fact that our students are not on campus. We assure you, we are doing everything to get them back as soon as possible. However, until then, we hope this helps give them a break or time to get additional help, without adding more screen time to their days.

If you have any questions, please contact Principal Myka Peck.
