Fellow CTE Administrators: |
Happy Spring season to all of you! Of course, in North Dakota where I am located, “spring” is a relative term as yesterday the state had a blizzard warning, flash flood warning, and tornado warning all in the same day! Here is hoping that the weather is more normal for you to enjoy as you successfully complete the last couple months of the school year.
It was terrific to see the strong attendance from the division at the National Policy Seminar, and we are in the midst of completing proposal reviews in determining the breakout sessions for next year’s Best Practices & Innovations Conference (Cape Cod, Massachusetts) and ACTE's CareerTech VISION 2022 (Las Vegas, Nevada). The shear number and quality of session proposals has been tremendous! Both conferences will be outstanding professional development opportunities, and very appreciative to see the willingness of so many to share their strategies, projects, expertise, and best practices to their career and technical education (CTE) administrative colleagues.
Please take the time to review the newsletter items below, which include an article from our Administration Division Fellows (Wendy Perry & Suzi Raiford), updates from division affiliate partners NCLA and CTEEC, and a variety of reminders from ACTE.

Suzi Raiford, Business and Industry Liaison
South Carolina Department of Education
The ACTE New Professionals Fellows has provided me with unique opportunities in just the first few months! I have a new appreciation for exercising my strengths thanks to the Clifton Strengths Assessment and coaching experience. I approach my personal and professional development priorities with more clarity as a result of reading The Trust Edge. I’ve expanded my perspective on leadership by listening to fellow Fellows and CTE leaders. They shared these common themes about the road to leadership. Leaders are continuously growing and raising expectations of ourselves to reach our goals. We receive confirmation of our leadership traits through those who believe and trust in our capabilities. Leaders are intentional and model passion and energy.
The 2022 ACTE National Policy Seminar (NPS) was also full of “firsts” for me. This was my first ACTE live event dedicated to Education policy issues and I feel like I can accomplish anything after my first experience as the South Carolina CTE Cheerleader on Capitol Hill!

Moore Norman Technology Center
Getting the opportunity to be involved with ACTE’s Experienced Fellows has been more rewarding that I could have anticipated. In just a few short months, I have already developed a broader and deeper understanding of how national CTE efforts are emphasized at state and national levels. National Policy Seminar in Washington, DC was eye-opening with the organized, strategic visits to Capitol Hill. States working together with our staff at the ACTE office showed the importance of unity in communicating with our government leaders. I was truly proud to be a part of the delegation working on our behalf.
Additionally, I have developed deep relationships with other state fellows who share the vision of student success in CTE. We may come from different paths but our focus on impacting students’ lives through CTE was the common language spoken in every encounter. I am grateful to have so many individuals to reach out and share ideas, concerns, and especially camaraderie.

Update from CTEEC
CTEEC is still in a time of rebuilding. The membership numbers continue to grow, especially the new members from other states. This year has been another challenging year but we have continued to work through. CTEEC is planning an event June 15–16 in Owasso, Oklahoma at the Tulsa Technology center Owasso Conference Center. The event will be a hybrid event and will be open to out of state member via zoom. A flier and program will be updated on the website soon.
Another exciting announcement is CTEEC has rebranded. Right before the pandemic, CTEEC had asked some graphic arts students at Gordon Cooper Technology to design a new logo for CTEEC and the state affiliate OKCTEEC. This project was put on hold until 2021-2022. I am very excited to debut the new logo. We believe the new logo captures the essence of what CTEEC does. CTEEC builds bridges to support equity and education for the students pursuing an education through career technology centers and community colleges. Here is the new logo and the new postcard.

CTEEC is looking to grow the executive team. Recently the President-Elect took a new position that does not allow her to continue her work with CTEEC. We would love to bring in an out of state member to join the executive team. If this is something that would interest you please do not hesitate to contact me.
