Dear RWS Community,
I am impressed with the
resilience, commitment, dedication, and determination
of this community. We start our sixth week in ways impacting us all. The
resilience
of our students to adjust says much about the Waldorf approach for teaching readiness! The
commitment
of our families to support their students during this time is extraordinary! The
dedication
of our faculty and staff shows their ability to make change and to continue changing to meet community academic and social expectations! The
determination
of our Board of Trustees is unconquerable!
May Faire and Employee Appreciation will be celebrated in the next two weeks. The Sixth and Seventh Grade class plays have been rescheduled and will be presented during September. Eighth Grade Commencement is being planned with the ceremony to be held either June 13 or June 20, 2020. The ceremony will depend on Governor Northam’s scheduled June 10th announcement about openings.
One change has to be made for the curriculum, beginning this week. We are sorry to announce that Señor Diego will no longer be teaching Spanish. He has provided content for the Middle School to continue their studies. We wish him and his family all the best. The College will provide more information regarding the Spanish program very soon.
The Response Task Teams are busy preparing for three scenarios: RWS opens as scheduled to start the 2020-2021 academic year; or, RWS must remain closed; or, RWS opens and then must close again for a period of time. As you must imagine, there are many decisions and plans to be made for each of these. At the same time, the 2020-2021 Budget must be able to support each of these and as usual will depend primarily on our enrollment.
A Health & Safety team has been established to plan for the return of students and staff onto the campus and into the buildings. Advancement staff applied for a donation of PPE gloves and we were granted 40 pairs. We expect some variation for all routines on which we have become accustomed when we return.
I hope you have enjoyed the calls made to each family by the Board of Trustees members. Thank you, again, for your suggestions, patience and hopes for our school.
Please join the community at the virtual Town Hall zoom meeting this Wednesday, May 6th, 6:00-7:30 p.m.
