Christmas Comes Early for 300+ Kindergarten Students

Pacifica High School welcomed more than 300 kindergarten students for its beloved Adopt-A-Child tradition this week. Pacifica seniors were paired with kindergartners they “adopted” for a magical morning filled with gift-giving, cookie decorating, games, train rides, crafts, photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus, and plenty of holiday cheer. Seniors received wish lists from their kinders and thoughtfully shopped for gifts, making the experience especially meaningful.

The gymnasium was transformed into a winter wonderland, filled with hundreds of students unwrapping gifts, participating in festive activities, and creating memories that will last a lifetime. This heartwarming event has been held annually for more than three decades, continuing a tradition that brings joy to students of all ages.

Special thanks to our talented student groups who performed, including Unified Song & Dance, the NJROTC UX Team, Choir, Cheer & Dance, and the Color Guard teams, helping make the morning even more memorable. Thank you to Board of Education Vice President Lan Nguyen and Trustee Teri Rocco for attending and showing their support for this cherished event and our school community.

Fitz Students Rewarded with New Bikes Thanks to Community Partners

Yesterday at Fitz Intermediate Language Academy, 12 students received brand-new bikes generously donated by Saddleback Church. This special bike give-away event was made possible through a powerful collaboration between GGUSD, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, the Santa Ana Police Department, and community partners—all working together to recognize positive choices and help students thrive. Moments like this highlight what is possible when schools and the community come together to support student success. Board of Education President Bob Harden and Trustee Teri Rocco also attended to show their support and gratitude for these wonderful partnerships!

GGUSD Hosts Snacks with the Superintendent

GGUSD enjoyed a sweet moment of connection during yesterday’s Snacks with the Superintendent event, where employees from across the district gathered to enjoy holiday cookies and hot chocolate made by our exceptional Food Services Department. The event provided a warm opportunity for staff to connect with Board of Education Vice President Lan Nguyen, Trustee Teri Rocco and Superintendent Dr. Gabriela Mafi, sharing conversation, appreciation, and community. GGUSD is grateful for dedicated employees and moments like these that strengthen connections across the district.

Unified Basketball Students Named Tournament Champions

Last Friday, our Special Education Department hosted an incredible Basketball Tournament for our unified and special education teams, bringing together athletes, families, and supporters for a day filled with teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship. The basketball tournament, held at Rancho Alamitos High School, was a celebration of strength, skill, and the power of inclusion, as athletes showcased their talents and cheered each other on! The energy was contagious, and the smiles were priceless! Shout-out to our 7-8 winner: Irvine Intermediate and our high school winner: Santiago High School!

La Quinta High School was proud to welcome back one of their own this week! Alumni Chris Tzorin visited campus to share his inspiring journey with students across all classes. From humble beginnings to becoming a successful executive chef, food truck owner, Taste Collective chef, and competitor selected by Gordon Ramsay for the show Next Level Chef, Chris showed firsthand how grit, hard work, and determination can turn passion into lifelong success.

His story of perseverance and creativity has led him to become a sought-after personal chef, food truck professional, and event caterer—and his message reminded students that big dreams are built one step at a time. Thank you, Chris, for giving back and inspiring the next generation to believe in themselves and chase their goals with confidence.

GGUSD has partnered with Varsity Tutors to offer FREE 24/7 live chat tutoring and one-hour tutoring sessions to support students in their academic success (Goal 1). The program is accessible from home through ClassLink using a district-provided device.
