Topic:

"Hearing the Voice of the Lord

in the Major Prophets."

The four major prophets: Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel.

These men, by their startling words and surprising actions, became the mouthpieces of God to both ancient Israel and to Christ’s Church.

They spoke truths that are timeless in their application while foreseeing "what would happen till the end of time, hidden things yet to be fulfilled" (Sirach 48:25).

These early forerunners of the Gospel, however, each spoke into a specific historical climate, one much different than our own.

In this class, we will closely read each book of the major prophets, identify its historical context, and contemplate its message in light of Christ.

About our Facilitator:

Thomas Hoerner is a husband and a new father. He studied Theology and Philosophy at Benedictine College, going on to earn a Master’s in Biblical Studies at the University of Notre Dame. Thomas then returned to Benedictine to teach Hebrew, Theology, and Great Books courses alongside his old mentors. This year he is a brand new doctoral student at the Catholic University of America, serving as a research assistant for the Sheen Preaching Initiative’s three volume manual on the Sunday lectionary. He is passionate about sharing the discoveries of biblical studies with the Church and placing them at the service of prayer. He hopes to write his dissertation on the theology of the Septuagint translators, the scribes of the third and second centuries BC who brought the Old Testament from Hebrew into Greek.
