Visit to The Mountain Inspires Volunteerism, Gift of New Website & More
My trip to The Mountain began as a conversation with friends. I knew where Highlands was, but little else. My friends persuaded me to attend the 2023 Annual Meeting with them in May.
During the visit, I met many new friends and quickly saw that The Mountain could use my assistance with its history and archives, which were not centrally gathered or organized. I went home with a collection of materials to organize, scan, edit, and format.
In the coming months, I returned to The Mountain several times to pick up more materials. I soon had many issues of Mountain Matters, annual reports, and newsletters ready to go along with the history of Camp Parrydise and many stories and photos.
The next hurdle was finding a way to accommodate these materials on the website. It turned out that the existing site wasn’t up to the task due to hosting limitations. There were two choices: give the electronic documents back and enjoy life, or fund a new website to give these historical materials a second life.
After looking at my finances, I decided to fund a new website. The funding was contingent on the selection of a professional company to assist with the technical aspects. I did the research and ultimately chose Appnet because of their experience, professional reputation, and proximity to The Mountain.
With funding and technical expertise in place, the management staff of The Mountain began to work with Appnet staff to create the new website.
The new website will feature all of the necessary information for visitors and will eventually include the historical materials. Plans are also in place to install web cameras that showcase The Mountain’s view and weather station to provide accurate weather information to help visitors plan their trips.
My work with The Mountain staff inspired me to make a major contribution to the Capital Campaign so that The Mountain can climb to new heights.
As you can tell, I love The Mountain, and I’m grateful for that initial conversation that brought me here. I encourage you to visit and support the Mountain. Together, we can make sure this special place is around for generations to come.
