DISABILITIES
The LDA Podcast
What is ADHD?
| |
Attention Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) affects focus, attention and behavior, and can make learning challenging.
ADHD is a disorder that includes difficulty staying focused and paying attention, difficulty controlling behavior, and hyperactivity. Although ADHD is not considered a learning disability, research indicates that 30-50% of children with ADHD also have a specific learning disability, and that the two conditions can interact to make learning extremely challenging. It can be determined to be a disability under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), making a student eligible to receive special education services.
Listen to our latest podcast episode on ADHD!
We talk with Dr. Vincent Alfonso about the types of ADHD, how different symptoms show up in children and adults, common ADHD myths, the frequency of having both ADHD and LD, and more!

Where is that Adult Education Center? | |
Finding your adult education center shouldn't be like finding Waldo in a maze of other similar faces. When students go looking for adult education help, they usually use Google to find us, and that directs them to the AALRC map page where they can find a center in their area. If our map page is not up to date, they may not be able to find your location or even call your phone number if it’s not correct. This leads to frustration and could be missed opportunities for our centers if they can't find us, and eventually give up.
Please do your part and help us keep our webpage up to date with your latest phone numbers and addresses by going to the two links below and checking to make sure all your information is correct.
Click on both maps to check the validity of your centers information:
http://aalrc.org/find-a-center
http://aalrc.org/adminteachers/index.html
It’s easiest to copy the information from the webpage, paste it into a Word document, highlight the changes in another color, then send the map updates to Rob Pollan rob@aalrc.org so he can update the websites.
