Advanced Ophthalmology Care Now Available at BEVS

We are proud to now offer Ophthalmology to our list of world-class specialty services. While it is a new department for us, it is the same team you have grown to trust over the past few years. Vermont Veterinary Eye Care has joined BEVS, providing a full range of services from routine eye problems to complex ophthalmic diseases, and traumatic eye injuries.

Board-certified veterinary ophthalmologists Sarah Hoy, DVM, MS, DACVO, and Courtenay Brines, DVM, MS, DACVO, along with their team of experienced and compassionate technicians, offer: 


  • Cataract surgery with intraocular lens (IOL) implantation
  • Chemical ablation
  • Corneal grafting surgery
  • Distichia & ectopic cilia cryotreatment
  • Enucleation
  • Exenteration
  • Eyelid and corneal laceration repair
  • Glaucoma treatment - endolaser, transscleral laser, Ahmed shunt placement
  • Lensectomy for anterior lens luxation
  • Parotid duct transposition/dry eye surgery
  • Reconstructive eyelid surgery/blepharoplasty
  • Third eyelid membrane surgery

We value and respect the relationship you have with your patients and clients. We recommend that pet parents seek care from a veterinary ophthalmologist when these symptoms appear in their pet:

  • Bumping into things (may indicate vision loss)
  • Cloudiness to the eye
  • Eye color change
  • Eye swelling
  • Holding their eye closed
  • Injury
  • Mucus discharge
  • Redness
  • Squinting
  • Tearing/weeping
  • Trauma
  • Vision behavior change
  • Any other change in appearance of the eye(s)

Ophthalmic care for pets at BEVS is available by appointment, Monday-Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. To schedule for your client, discuss a case, or answer any questions, please call 802.863.2387 (BEVS) or 802.404.3937 (EYES), or email eyes@bevsvt.com. Referrals are also accepted via our referral portal. Referrals are not required, but always appreciated. 


Owners with pets experiencing an eye emergency are asked to call if possible before coming to BEVS’ Emergency Department (open 24/7).
