Prescription drug costs have become a key issue for both workers and their employers. According to the CDC, 60 percent of U.S. adults between the ages of 18 and 64 were prescribed medication during the previous 12 months. This means that the majority of your workers are likely taking at least one prescription, possibly more, during the average year. As prescription costs continue to rise, controlling this expense is becoming more and more important. Luckily, there are several strategies that employers can use. Click here to continue reading.

APH On The Road
Advanced Plan for Health attended the Health Care Administrators Association (HCAA)'s 2020 Executive Forum in Las Vegas, Nevada last week and i was a fantastic event. The agenda was action-packed with valuable insight, interactivity and information.
There was a great selection of educational breakout sessions covering important topics like crafting risk strategies for affiliate groups, creating high-performance health plans, the future of healthcare in America and how on-site medical clinics relate to direct provider contracting.

A few key insights we came across at HCAA are listed below:

  1. High Deductible Health Plans (HDHP's) paired with HSA's are the new normal, accounting for 1/4 of Employer Health Plans.
  2. 1% of private health coverage is through self‐funded plans
  3. Roughly 30% of all care is unnecessary
  4. Medical error is the 3rd leading cause of death in the U.S.
  5. By 2028, 85% of procedures will be performed in an Outpatient setting.
  6. Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs) reduce commercial insurance costs by $38 billion annually
