Recap from the Road
SIIA 2018 - Austin
The September Self-Insured Institute of America (SIIA) conference & expo in Austin, TX was a fantastic event, and our team came away energized! As expected, there was a continued keen interest in review of any solutions that show impactful results in increasing savings while improving member outcomes.
From the opening keynote session delivered by futurist and author, CEO Mike Walsh of Tomorrow ( pictured on the left ), to the breakout sessions covering important topics such as vendor carve-outs, reference-based pricing, direct provider contracts, narrow networks and specialty drug issues and trends – the agenda was action-packed with valuable insight, interactivity and information. The APH team left the conference inspired by the level of enthusiasm SIIA attendees displayed for adopting new ideas and technologies.
The APH team in attendance thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to listen in on sessions where important ideas and innovations were discussed. We were also honored to have so many attendees (including current partners and clients) come by our exhibit booth to learn more about the value APH is bringing to the marketplace and to take a peek at a demo of our Poindexter advanced and predictive analytics platform.

Blog Insights

Once populations are targeted for support and intervention via our Poindexter advanced and predictive analytics (via current state and predicted risk factors), we’ve found that one of the most effective ways to support targeted employees and members is through live or telephonic nurse influence and intervention.

The right nurses who are skilled in influence and rapport-building are able to successfully “take the final mile” for those with chronic conditions and co-morbidities, inappropriate ER utilization, gaps in care, medication risks, potential pain medication issues, and predicted events such as hospital admissions, re-admissions, heart attacks, strokes and more.

There are about 99,000 Americans listed for a transplant , some for many years. Unfortunately, about 4,800 die each year while they wait for their transplant. Not everyone is at the top of the transplant list nor do they have the remaining life and / or health to undergo the procedure if the wait is too long.

Expanding the available organ pool can save lives and reduce overall costs in many cases.

There is a relatively new source of organs available from deceased individuals infected with Hepatitis C (HCV-infected). These organs were formerly discarded, but they are now being utilized. These HCV-infected organs are becoming available for transplant in growing volume due to the greatly increased number of tragic deaths in young adults dying from opioid and fentanyl overdoses.
